  6. This document contains information about the EarthTime Lite 2.0
  7. plug-in for Netscape Navigator 2.0.  Please read through this
  8. document carefully. We recommend also that you print a copy of this
  9. document and save it for future reference.

  11. This Lite version of EarthTime contains most, but not all of the
  12. features of the full product.  For more information, see Section 4.

  31. *  Personal Computer running Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.51
  32.    or later
  33. *  1 MB free disk space on the disk drive where Netscape Navigator
  34.    2.0 is installed.
  35. *  1 MB additional free disk space on the disk drive where Microsoft
  36.    Windows is installed, to be used temporarily by the Install
  37.    program.

  42. 2. Installation
  43. ===============

  45. 1. Make sure that Netscape Navigator 2.0 is NOT running.
  46.  
  47. 2. Find SETUP.EXE in Windows Explorer or the File Manager, and
  48. double-click it to run it.  This unpacks the program files and
  49. launches the Setup program, which installs EarthTime Lite and then
  50. deletes the temporary files it created.

  52. 3. Follow the step-by-step prompts until the finish.

  54. Installation creates a shortcut on your desktop called EarthTime
  55. Plug-in.

  59. 3. Starting EarthTime Lite

  62. After installation, double-click the desktop icon labeled EarthTime
  63. Plug-in, or choose EarthTime Plug-in from the Windows 95 Start 
  64. Menu | Programs | EarthTime Plug-in. In Windows NT, find the
  65. EarthTime Plug-in icon in the EarthTime program group, and
  66. double-click it.

  68. The first time you run EarthTime Lite, you see the Settings
  69. dialog, where you identify your current Local City (where you are now
  70. located) and Home City (where you live).  These cities will appear in
  71. the EarthTime display with icons identifying them as Home and Local
  72. cities.  You must select cities in the Settings dialog box before
  73. EarthTime can run.

  75. EarthTime assumes your current system time is correct for the
  76. Local City you select, and that you have selected the correct time
  77. zone in the Windows 95 Date/Time Control Panel.

  79. We recommend running only one instance of EarthTime Lite at a time.

  81. To view a description of EarthTime Lite, open the Windows 95 Start
  82. Menu and choose Programs | EarthTime Plug-in | EarthTime
  83. Introduction. You will see a document that describes EarthTime Lite
  84. and provides a hotlink to launch it.

  86. There are two additional ways you can launch EarthTime Lite from
  87. Netscape Navigator 2.0:
  88.  
  89. *  Choose File | Open File.  In the Files Of Type list box, choose 
  90. EarthTime (*.ETC).  Open the file called EARTHTIM.ETC, which is
  91. located in the folder called
  92. Program Files\Netscape\Navigator\Program\Plugins\EarthTime.

  94. *  Choose File | Open File. In the Files Of Type list box, choose 
  95. Source (*.htm).  Choose the EARTHTIM.HTM file, located in the folder
  96. called Program Files\Netscape\Navigator\Program\Plugins\EarthTime.
  97. You will see a document that includes a link to launch EarthTime.

  99. NOTE: If you attempt any of these steps to launch EarthTime Lite and
  100. you end up viewing the EARTHTIM.ETC document, it means that Netscape
  101. was running when you installed EarthTime. To solve the problem,
  102. simply shut down the Netscape Navigator, reload it, and relaunch
  103. EarthTime.

  107. 4. Summary of Features
  108. ======================

  110. EarthTime Lite for Netscape Navigator 2.0 lets you monitor time in
  111. eight world cities simultaneously. The online help describes the 
  112. program features and explains how to use them. To see the online 
  113. help, right-click a city panel and choose Help from the menu.
  114.  
  115. The online Help also describes the full product, which has the
  116. following features not included in the Lite version:
  117.  
  118.   * Internet Time Synchronizer sets your computer's system clock
  119.     precisely using Internet time servers.
  120.  
  121.   * A powerful conversion utility that lets you convert among
  122. standard
  123.     and scientific units of measure.
  124.  
  125.   * An expanded database of over 400 cities. Some of the key city
  126.     information can be edited as necessary.

  128. Note about this version: Display of graphic images, including 
  129. some EarthTime Help topics, can cause the EarthTime display to 
  130. flash if you are using a 256-color video driver.  For more 
  131. information, refer to the Navigator Help system:  click the 
  132. Help menu at the top of the Navigator window, choose Release 
  133. Notes, and click Known Problems and Bugs.

  137. 5.  Notes about EarthTime Lite for Netscape Navigator 2.0

  140. Changing Local City under Windows NT 3.51
  141. ------------------------------------------
  142. After changing the Local City, you need to specify the time zone, as
  143. explained in the online Help.  If you are using Windows NT 3.51, the
  144. Control Panel window opens.  Double-click the Date/Time icon, and
  145. choose the time zone from the drop-down list.
